"He humbled himself and became obedient to death--even death on a cross! Philippians 2:8 (NIV) Christ was the ultimate teacher of obedience. There was a time, when I thought about the crucifixion of Jesus, I only concentrated on the physical suffering during his trial and on the cross. I now realize his death was also about his obedience to his father. In the garden, just before he was arrested, he prayed to his father to "take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done". (Luke 22: 42) (NIV)
How many times I have resisted obeying just because I did not want the task before me. It was more painful to obey or more convenient not to obey. I know that obedience will continue to be a struggle for me but this study has helped me to define its true meaning and I pray will assist in resisting my human nature to disobey.
Christ’s faithful love for his father and his obedience unto death is an example for all of us to follow in our Journey to the Cross. |
